FAQ’s

How often should I tune my piano?

At Piano Centre, we recommend tuning any piano two times per year. Recognizing the drastic changes the relative humidity and temperature naturally throw off an instrument’s tuning, especially in the dryer winter months. As a result, our minimum recommendation is a visit twice a year from a technician, this not only ensures better stability from regulating the tension across the instrument’s scale, but ensures a better playing experience for the musician.

Do you have a tuner on staff?

We have trained technicians on staff and have great relationships with techs in the industry for recommendations outside of Edmonton to take care of your piano. From tuning, regulation, voicing and overall piano performance, to cabinet touch-ups, and full refinishing and rebuilds, we can accommodate your needs.

How much does tuning cost?

A standard piano tuning for both uprights and grands costs $170 in Edmonton - if a piano hasn’t been tuned in over a year or if the environment hasn’t been stable, a pitch raise may be required at $65. Travel outside of Edmonton may incur additional costs.

How long does a tuning take?

Typically you can expect between 60-90 minutes for a tuning, although this can vary, or sometimes be longer depending on the scope of work needed on the instrument.

Do you offer appraisals and estimates for other work?

The appraisal fee in Edmonton is $165. Outside of Edmonton may incur some travel costs.
