A Father's Wish and the Lasting Gift of Music

A Steinway delivery became a powerful reminder that the greatest value of music is often found far beyond the notes themselves.

We spend our days talking about pianos—their touch, tone, craftsmanship, and the joy they bring to homes and families. Every so often, however, we're reminded that music can mean something much deeper.

Recently, we had the privilege of delivering a Steinway grand piano to a client named Megara. While every piano has a story, this one carried a significance that extended far beyond the instrument itself. It was the fulfillment of a father's wish, a lifelong dream, and a powerful reminder of the lasting gift that music can leave behind.

Like many clients, Megara initially visited Piano Centre to explore different possibilities. We spent time comparing Boston grands, discussing used Steinways, and learning what she hoped to find in an instrument. What quickly became apparent, however, was that this search wasn't simply about purchasing a piano.

It was about fulfilling a promise.

Megara shared that her father had battled an aggressive cancer for several years. Throughout that difficult journey, they spent countless hours talking about life, family, and the dreams that sometimes get postponed while we focus on everything else.

One dream remained constant: owning a Steinway grand piano.

Megara and her father at a piano lesson.

As a child, her father drove her to piano lessons and supported her musical development. Music became one of the many things they shared together throughout their lives.

Reflecting on those final years, Megara shared:

"We had lots of deep conversations, and having my dream Steinway and enjoying life was a big part of those conversations."

When Megara told us her story, we were deeply moved. After learning more about her goals and the significance this purchase held, we ultimately guided her toward a piano that felt like the right fit.

Wanting to honour the significance of the moment, we offered to place a discreet commemorative plaque inside the piano as a tribute to her father—a private reminder of the role he played in her musical journey.

One memory in particular speaks to the extraordinary role music played in their relationship:

"At the end of his life, my dad made a courageous choice to leave this world on his own terms. His only request was that I play the piano as he peacefully passed away."

Few words could better express the power of music to comfort, connect, and remain present during life's most profound moments. On delivery day, there was excitement, anticipation, and plenty of emotion. The piano had found its home.

For our team, experiences like these are a reminder of why we do what we do. Long after the delivery truck has left and the paperwork is forgotten, the music remains.

To Megara and Chad, thank you for allowing us to be a small part of such a meaningful chapter in your family's story. We wish you many years of beautiful music and cherished memories around your Steinway.

And to Megara's father, whose love of music helped inspire this journey—thank you. Your gift continues to be heard in every note.
